The First Three days for Kayla

Day one of the all new me
Yesterday I bought a shake weight to help me with my pesky flabby arms. I know it looks perverted but I can actually feel it working. I am looking into getting the ab circle pro or some wii game for some fun fitness. For now it is walking my adorable dog Simba a couple times around the track. I am starting off slow to get my body used to exercising. I have tons of workout videos too, and have turned the garage into a lovely and roomy workout area!

I had scrambled eggs and an English muffin for breakfast which was surprisingly filling. Sarah and I went to the movies with our friend Alissa and resisted all the food temptations there! Just say no is our motto! We then went grocery shopping and OMG our cart was full of…. VEGGIES! That’s right my fridge is now full of luscious greens and I am actually looking forward to making meals that include these foreign green things. I also got delicious apples, grapes and bananas! I got tomato basil wraps for yummy healthy lunches. It was much cheaper than my usual grocery store bill, and also much more healthy! I also got a box of Special K, the chocolately delight kind  and it is super good. I was always hesitant to try it because I thought it would taste bland because its healthy, but it is actually very good! Tomorrow is going to be a day filled with spring cleaning and of course exercise. School starts back up on Monday : )

Here is proof that my fridge has nothing but healthy food in it!

Day Two:
Today was a little bit harder than yesterday. I woke up late around 11 and ran some errands, then I ate a bowl of Special K and a banana. Sarah and I had a complete clean the house day, so that was my exercise and also a shake weight workout! I took a nap because I was so tired, but then went right back to cleaning. For dinner, Sarah and I made codfish and baked carrots and red potatos! It was so delicious, and I even ate more carrots than potatos. I got my blender and juicer out of the garage so I can have yummy fruit smoothies and real veggie/fruit juice! I haven't thought about junk food at all, and I have no desire to eat it. So far so good.

Day Three:
Ok so day three... I am feeling great. I exercised with cardio for 30 minutes this morning and it was hard, I was surprised to feel how out of shape I am. I know with time I will be able to workout for 30 minutes without feeling like I am dieing. I went out with Sarah, Gabby and Alissa to lunch and the movies. We went to Dennys... not the best choice but I feel I made a healthy choice with a ham and egg omelette, no cheese and wheat toast. It was under 400 calories and didn't ruin my whole day. School starts tomorrow and this starts a whole new schedule of getting up at 5:30 am exercising, showering and heading to an 8 am class, everyday. I am hoping that this will put me on a nice routine of exercising every morning and eating small snacks/meals 6 times a day. I feel better and more healthier already.

I will miss you, but it is time to part our ways....sincerely, Gabby!

You know, putting this blog together I just realized... WHAT THE HECK! I eat CRAP! All my favorite things to eat, ARE THE WORST! Wow, I didn't put "Goodbye Broccoli, I will miss you." NO, because all my favorite foods are crap. Can't wait for that to change.

Time for change...Gabby

My name is Gabrielle, I am 22 year old. I have always been overweight my whole life. I don't remember there being a time where I wasn't chunky. When I was younger, I always said I would lose weight this summer before school started, and make a grand enterance. Well, that never happened. Everyone has always told me it's so much easier to lose weight when you are young. I am 22 years old, and I am not getting any younger. So, instead of saying "Oh I will start the diet tomorrow, one last Starbucks/Energy drinks" it stops now. I have had one hundred "last fast food trips" and "Starbucks runs." I am not saying I won't eat fast food EVER or never have a Starbucks again in my life. For now, I just can't because I don't know how to control my need for that "Venti real Caramel white chocolate mocha fappacino" which I think has as many calories as a Big Mac. Which I can't ever just get a Big Mac, I have to have the meal, and at Taco Bell I just can't get one thing, I have to get three things. Right now, it just needs to come to a stop until I can learn how to moderate and chose healthier choices.

A new day starts now, and I am determined to be the women I think I am meant to be. I will never be pole skinny, and that is okay with me. I just want to be able to shop in normal stores for clothes, and not have to go into those special stores that carry my size. Being overweight, is a choice we make. We were never destined to be an obese, it is because of the choices we have made in our food industry, family, and personal lives that has led people down this path. I am chosing to put it to a stop. I don't want to be subject to diabetes, heart disease, and much more things that follow with being overweight. It stops now. 2010, will be a year of physical and spiritual change for my best friend, friends, mom, and I. And if one of us falls off the band wagon, well we will just have to pick them right back up. And if they stay off the band  wagon, then they are dissapointing themselves and the others we could effect. Let this be a year where I control food, not food controls me.

The glory about this year, is I'm not going to be starving myself this year. I'm not doing some CRAZY diet like Atkins, and YES that is a crazy diet and should never be done long term. I will just be eating healthier things and smaller portions, only eating when I am hungry. Not because everyone else is eating, or because my mind tells me I'm hungry. I have done those fad diets, I lost 70 pounds on Atkins, but no human can stick to a diet like that unless they want to die of heart failure at 40. So I went off the diet, and went nuts. Of course I gained most of that weight back. So instead of doing that dealthy diet again, I will try just eating and excersizing. I won't put a ton of money into Jenny Craig or Nutrasystem, which is just processed portion controled food. I can do this ON MY OWN. With my best friend and mother! We can do this without throwing away needless dollars at some diet or counting calories or carbs. We know, from our own intelligance what has a crap load of calories, carbs, and fat. We just have to say no to those things without paying someone to tell us their bad for us.

Things that will ultimatly happen, my family and I won't spend $300.00 on fast food or eating out. THAT IS SO MUCH MONEY! And we wonder why we have money troubles. $300.00 is a Iphone, a car payment, a plane ticket to somewhere AMAZING in the U.S., two hotel nights at the beach, and MANY other things. I can't wait to see how much money we save this year just by cutting out fast food and Starbucks. Here is my example, I have spent $150.00 on fastfood, Starbucks, and eating out in a month and a half. That is just my budget. That's not including my moms whose goes to $300.00-$500.00 a month! With the whole family. That is SO MANY grocery trips! Trust me when I say, It costs WAY more to eat crap then it does to eat right.

There are many reasons why I am doing this, but most of them are because I just want to be healthy. And there is no such thing as being obese and healthy. So it is time for a CHANGE.

Through this year, there will be many more things to talk about, journeys I take with my friends and family, things I discover about myself, ect. So, 2010 BRING IT ON!

Kayla's Foods that she will miss the most

So here is a list of non-healthy foods that I will miss eating, since I am cutting these things out of my life at least until I can learn to eat smaller portions and make healthier decisions.

Soda: I love love love Pepsi and Sprite, but these are full of sugar and upset my stomach so bye bye

Photobucket
Pizza: I love cheesy pepperoni pizza and not just one slice, so for now its got to go

Photobucket

Ice cream: My all time favorite is Ben and Jerry's Phish food ice cream, lots of sugar and calories so it too must go

Photobucket

Candy/Junk food: Convenient and sugary foods must go in order for me to learn how to eat healthier. So I must say goodbye to ring pops, brownies, handi-snacks, pizza pockets, pizza snacks, and candy in general.

Kayla's First Entry 12/18/2009

My name is Kayla Willhite, and I am a fourth year college student. I am a psychology major and gender studies minor. I have been overweight since I was little, and never really learned how to eat the right way. I have family medical issues that deal with being obese, and I do not want to get them. I am starting out at 245, and would ultimately like to be down to 150 by this time next year.

I have never had a lot of self confidence and this is because I have always been chubby. I am tired of feeling like the fat elephant in the room and tired of fearing that people are judging me because of my weight. It is my time now to become healthy and to not fear/think that when someone is talking about someone being obese that they are talking about ME! I am ready and it starts now!

My biggest problems are that I eat too much, not enough vegetables and don't exercise to burn the calories. I love soda and fast food. I spend almost 100 plus on eating out every month, so not only is this journey going to make me slim but also slighter richer. Being a college student, it is hard to find time to exercise and make home cooked meals; but that time can't be an excuse anymore.

Here is what I am going to do to change my ways:
1. No more fast food, eating out, drinking soda or eating junk food
2. Eat chicken, fish, rice, whole grains (in moderation), fruits and VEGGIES!
3. Eat in smaller portions
4. Exercise 30 minutes a day, at least 4 times a week
5. Have a positive attitude and adapt small goals to reach!

We have decided to start fresh on January first, therefore we can get through the holidays without feeling guilty. So come January first, it is cracking down time!
